Oklahoma (Hardiness Zone: 7)I received my Contorted Filbert in great condition as it was very well packaged. The root ball was smaller than I expected after I removed it from the "5 gallon smart pot". Even though I forgot to put the fertilizer underneath it the plant is growing vigorously after some initial transplant shock (curled leaves). I planted my Corylus in a large (22" wide X 18" deep) pot in Miracle Grow potting mix. So, it might have been a good thing that I did not put the fertilizer in place after all!
I received and planted the Corylus the 1st week of May, it is now June 7th, and the plant is doing extraordinarily well. It is in a very difficult location where it gets morning sun, midday shade and late afternoon sun in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The test will be whether it survives the hot summer in that location. (That is why put it in a pot so I could move it if absolutely necessary). I plan to mulch it well and overwinter it in the pot. Overwintering it in a pot will be another test, especially if we have a hard winter!
Since the plant is in a pot and underneath the eve of the house it requires irrigation. I discovered that the plant responds well to giving its leaves and soil a good shower , in the early morning, really soaking its leaves with the sprinkler. This plant does not like to be over watered so I have taken to monitoring the soil very carefully. However, it really does appreciate moisture on its leaves.
So, that is really about all I know to date!
I am delighted to give Sooner Plant Farm 5 leaves for such a gorgeous, well packaged and healthy plant.Michael- Jul 06, 2014

Brandon, Mississippi (Hardiness Zone: 7)It arrived in good condition. It was dormant but clearly had healthy buds with a few showing hints of green. 7 weeks since it arrived it's now bursting with new growth, with some new branches curling out almost 8 inches. This is definitely a vigorous tree.

Rhode Island (Hardiness Zone: 5)This was the first plant I ever ordered from Sooner, and the order that convinced me that Sooner's my first choice for plants. This plant remains true to type. It arrived ready to thrive and has not disappointed! It's a great accent plant in our garden.

Interesting Notes About HARRY LAUDER'S WALKING STICK
Our trees are grown on their own roots not grafted. Don't worry about straight suckers that must be removed. We say "let the suckers grow." They'll be contorted, too!
